DIRECTOR - What my friends think I do...

Had to post another one of these "What my friends think I do..." pictures! I directed a feature film called 'The Counterpart' a couple of years ago now and to be honest that above picture isn't far off from what the experience was like!!

SPONTANEOUS PHOTO SHOOT - JULIE DICKSON MODEL/ACTRESS

Last weekend Julie and I decided to do a spontaneous photo shoot with what we had available to us at the time.

We shot a series of photographs which you can see below. All shot on my trusty Canon 5D Mark II with 24-105mm Canon L Series lens.

BIG SEXY - Photo Shoot - Hip-Hop Artist A-Town/Perth

Recently I was in Adelaide where I shot a promo for good friend and brotha Big Sexy. The promo video is below for those who missed it in a previous blog.

While shooting the promo for Big Sexy we decided to sneak in some photographs to help promote his next album. That's the good thing about using the Canon 5D Mark II the ease at which you can go from video to stills.

A big shout out for my cousin Michael for helping out with the shoot. Shot the following photos on the 5D Mark II with 24-105mm Canon L Series lens. Edited in Photoshop.

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing songwriter, singer, producer and good friend Joshua Pitt.

Myself and Josh have been conspiring to do a shoot for some time now and finally the planets aligned and it happened. I shot the photos of Josh on my Canon 5D Mark II with a f4 24mm to 105mm L series lens. Images were edited in Photoshop.

Josh plans to use the photographs for promoting his upcoming album called 'Revamped' as well promoting himself on his new website:

Officeworks - Avery Labels - How To Use Video - Get Creative - Video Online

A few weeks ago myself and Julie shot a video for Officeworks and Avery Labels. The video focussed on 'How To Use' Avery Labels in a creative manner. When we think of Avery labels most of us typically think of address labels and that's about it. Well of late Avery have come out with a great range of custom and creative labels to suit your business needs whether it be creating designs for wine bottles or lolly bags for your kids birthdays.

BIG SEXY - INTRO PROMO VIDEO - Hip-Hop Artist A-Town/Perth

A couple of weeks ago I was in Adelaide shooting a wedding. During my visit I managed to squeeze in a quick catch up and shoot with good friend and hip-hop artist Big Sexy. I've known Big Sexy for quite some time now through the hip-hop/rap duo T.D.B. (Tha Deadly Boyz). I've shot three music videos for T.D.B. over the years as well as photo shoots and promo videos. Myself and Julie even managed the duo at one point.

Big Sexy is embarking on a solo career as a hip-hop/rap artist and after much chat on Facebook we decided to shoot a quick promo for an intro track he had recorded.

The above video was shot in one cold and brisk afternoon in Adelaide down in the Woolshed building region of Port Adelaide. Great location used a lot by filmmakers and photographers in Adelaide.

I shot the promo video with my Canon 5D Mark II, 24-105mm L Series lens, all hand held off the shoulder with my Jag35 mini field runner rig and DFocus follow focus unit. We pretty much shot the video off the cuff using my iphone as the music playback for Big Sexy to sing to. My cousin Michael helped out with this part of the shoot.

Editing for the video was cut on Final Cut Pro 7, the text was done in After Effects and grading was done in Apple Color.

RECOMMENDED PRODUCTS

First time filmmakers! I recommend the Canon XA10 video camera as an entry level camera. Great for young filmmakers, wedding videographers and even corporate or event projects! It's small, compact and lightweight.

I highly recommend the following book as a must read for any young filmmaker. I've read the book and found it extremely useful in understanding the importance of finding your own process of filmmaking.
