The Writer - Directed by Matt Poidevin - A Short Film - Colour Grading - Final Cut Pro 7 and Magic Bullet Looks
Another project I have been working on is a short film called 'The Writer'. Written by John Smithers and Directed by good friend and filmmaking collaborator Matt Poidevin I became involved in the project after moving to Melbourne recently.
Matt asked if I would be keen to help on the post production side of things with his film namely the colour grade. After much talk about the film and a solid night of colour grading we added that extra layer to his short film.
I took a different approach when grading this short film, normally I would use Final Cut Pro 7's 3 way colour corrector wheel or if I wanted to get more involved I would use Apple Color to grade the film. However if this case I used Magic Bullet Looks to try something different, I was pleasantly surprised with the results! A few additions to the curves filter and some post grads worked the film up a treat.
The film was shot by DP John Walker ACS on the Sony EX-1.
